Rochester's Mike Vance appears to be one of the more exciting players in the league. After receiving effusive praise from manager Bernie Carlson in Wednesday's Post-Bulletin sports section, Vance went out and put on a show behind the plate. He flung himself nearly into the dugout on one foul pop and crashed headlong into the backstop in pursuit of another (important point: he did not catch either one). As Rochester shortstop Chad Falk astutely pointed out, Vance is worth the price of admission.

From the bad news department: first baseman Mike Burman went down during infield warm-ups with a twisted ankle and had to be replaced in the line-up by bench coach Scott Thorvilson. Team trainer Todd Hangge said it appeared to be a mid- to high-ankle sprain and suggested Burman use the R.I.C.E. treatment: Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation. Center fielder Jeff Swanson blamed Burman's new spikes for the injury. Look for Burman to return to action sometime next week.
